Ham Radio Classes

The Kings County Repeater Association, in cooperation with Nassau County OEM and RACES, will sponsor a class to help you become a ham radio operator. This course is designed to not only prepare you for the required entry level Technician class FCC exam, it will also provide you with a bit of practical knowledge and hands on experience.

Part one of this class starts on or about September 1st, 2013 and consists of about 7 assignments, discussions, and support via E-Mail. This portion of the class recognizes today's busy lifestyle, and allows you to study at your own pace, typically about three hours per week of your free time (whenever you have it) is all that's needed. During the entire process you will have access to your knowledgeable instructor team, available to provide the support and encouragement you need. As long as space is available, and you have the ability to "catch up" you may join at any time.

Part two consists of a weekend of in person review and demonstrations, followed by the exam. It will be held at the Nassau County OEM facility on October 5-6 from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM each day.

Please note that a knowledge of Morse code is no longer required.

This class and the accompanying exam are provided absolutely free of charge!

This class is open to the public. Complete registration and a class specific study guide are required to participate. Capacity is limited. Unfortunately, auditing is not permitted.

Everyone who passes the exam, and completes all assignments, will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a dual band, handheld radio! Drawing will be held after Sundays exam, must be present to win. Discounted membership and publications will also be available from various ham radio organizations.
