Yaesu to Introduce FT-1D Digital HT During Hamvention 2012 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Gary, KB2BSL

Yaesu is set to publicly introduce it's new flagship HT the FT-1D during the 2012 Hamvention held annually in Dayton, Ohio. Yaesu is the last of the big four amateur radio manufacturers to release a digital format radio, with Alinco, Icom, and Kenwood many years ahead in the game will the guaranteed to be incompatible with any of the others format be able to catch up?

We know it will be the first such radio to feature a camera, and be able to send extremely low resolution (320*240) pictures with the push of a button when you attach the optional camera accessory. But will it be able to route calls, support reflectors (non WIRES), what about repeaters? We don't expect to see anything other than a rough prototype at Dayton, but as much information as possible along with pictures will be posted live.

A new product, from a new company is expected to be revealed during the 2012 Hamvention in Dayton Ohio.

The product is the UDR56K4 25W 70cm Digital Transceiver. This new radio appears to be capable of FSK, GMSK, and 4FSK modulation with data rates from 4800 to 56000 bps. The radio is said to feature Ethernet to RF in a single package, indicating that it has a built in Ethernet jack.

The new company NW Digital Radio is lead by Bryan Hoyer, KG6GEU with John Hays, K7VE as Marketing Director.

There was no indication of pricing or pictures available at the time of this writing. However, we will gather as much information as is available live from the 2012 Dayton Hamvention.

Bryan recently gave a presentation at the Microhams conference on "Authentication for Amateur Radio", it's an interesting read, and one wonders on how this product will be involved.
