New Radio Alert: Alinco DJ-G29 ! PDF Print E-mail

Alinco has been showing off one of the few new products at this years Dayton Hamvention, and boy do I think it will be popular!

The new radio is their model DJ-G29 HT it is a bit of an oddball that it covers both the 220MHz AND 900MHz ham bands. It is very similar to their very capable DJ-G7 with two fulltime independent VFO's with their own volume control, full duplex operation, IPX7 water resistant, and cross band repeater. Power output is 5w on 220 and 2w on 900.

Until now hams have had to resort to using commercial radios for 900MHz, often requiring modification and the use of questionable software. This radio is as easy to use as their 2m/70cm/23cm HT and like most amateur radios is easily keypad programmable with flexible repeater offsets.

Personally, I believe this radio will prove to be very popular, and is now on my must have list.

Alinco gave out a very nice Pentel pen for filling out a survey. They were obviously trying to gage how much hams are willing to pay for a radio like this, and what demand would be.

Its about time! This *should* have happened at least 10 years ago at the same time there were several 1.2 GHz radios being marketed! I will definitely buy one when/if it is introduced!

As much as I would like to get one of these, I have had both a DJ-296 and a DJ-596. Both PA sections failed within two years of purchase. Alinco repair turn around would have been almost 6 months. It doesn't say much for durability. I will stick with Motorola, Ericsson, and Kenwood- all commercial rigs.

Yes, definitely. About time somebody decided to take a chance on 900 other than the "modifieds" of long ago and certainly more adaptable than commercial gear. Now be sure to put a Radio in it with honest selectivity and intermod immunity.

As soon as they are available, I want to get one. I have several Kenwood commercial handhelds and mobiles on 900. I suggested several years ago to the Alinco engineering that they consider a 900 unit, but they took it one step farther with 220 which is a great combination. I hope that they are available soon.

This radio is going to be manufactured. Alinco has indicated it will be about 6 months until it hits the market as the FCC approval process will take some time. I was told I can't fly out to Japan and pick one up (I would have) as they can't sell it there as no allocation for these bands exist. This will be a USA only product.
The build quality is identical to the DJ-G7, which in my opinion is very good.
I do have higher quality photos to post, and I'll do so when time permits.

If this were a MULTI-MODE (CW, USB, LSB, FM, AM etc) 1 to 25 or 30 watt output (with 1 dB steps) base/mobile with a button for PL and one for DCS; with PTT output/input and audio IN/OUT I would buy 2 of them to replace my Kenwood TK-981's.

I'm interested! I'll still keep my Motorola MTS3000's, MTX9000's though. For you EmComm guys this would be great. Most scanners cannot scan the 220 mHz and 900 mHz bands.

As I'm already equipped for those bands, this HT would simply add to my collection in that regard. If it's in the range of most other name-brand dual band dual receive HTs, I'd buy one.

Yes indeed a 927 MHz for us hams who have the other kinds like "Motorola/Kenwo od/GE/Johnson and others. This is a very good thing, the more I read about this hand held the more I like it. 73 and good DX'ing

As I'm the CEO and current President of the Gold Wing Amateur Radio Club here in northern California, we all are looking forward to the new Alinco 927 MHz hand held, It's about time a Ham Radio company has come out with a 927 MHz radio. Be looking foward to buying units for the motorcyclemobil e group. The 222 MHz is a added feature and will be welcome here in northern California.

I over heard some hams talking about this radio and could not beleave my ears, but if this is true, when will be be ready for sale?, I for sure would buy one as I'm new to ham radio and like the 927 band here in northern CA.

For us down in Southern California there are not to many 900 repeaters, but with the out coming of this radio this might change the way hams look at 900 and of course there are a lot of 220 repeaters down here.

this is my 2 cents worth. i feel that the Mfg'ers for amateur radio left the market alone only to bring to the table what the commerical side needed. as the HF'ERS finally got a multi mode single unit and we all know how smart and well it worked. that should of been done for the above Hf, they should have a single unit of 2mter's 220 440 900 and 1.2 all in one. it makes sense and would go big.

I just got mine from HRO in San Diego. Portland only had 2, and I got really lucky to get this one while I still live up here. Programs just like the G7, sounds great.. Cant wait to get back to N CA and put this to good use. The UHF repeaters in my home area are now pretty much offline due to the USAF and their toy out at Beale AFB, so these bands are filling rather quickly with new repeaters.

na il wait shoulda left wide band rx and fm radio alone with 1.25 and 23cm thata been real nice talkie ive got the G7 nice radio.another thing technologys here where's dual band all mode talkie,be nice to have 20 mtr talkie.cool be 10 watt 20 mtr talkie and keep cost down they'd sell like hot cake's
