|President's Message – June 2011|
|Written by Vinny, KB2PSI|
Greetings to all club members, Friends of the KCRA and fellow HAM’s.
During this month’s meeting on June 21st, we will be building the 15m Moxon antenna that we will be using during Field day. This year’s Field day promises to be bigger and better that last years! We will have twice the number of antennas as usual, and some new operators that promised to stay with us all night! Come on over and join us for the meeting! We will be discussing Field Day planning, our new Arcom controller, and the Club Echo-IRLP project status.
Last Month’s Hands-on Lab with our resident Repeater Extraordinaire, Jim KC2LEB, went over very well. The members learned a lot about the repeater operation, and our plans for the repeater upgrade. Thank you, Jim and Gary for an excellent demonstration. We have other improvements that we are working on, including retiring the Station Master for a newer antenna that was recently purchased. So, stay tuned in for more announcements!
Dayton pictures were posted by Gary, including one of the founding members of the KCRA, Bill Pasternak WA6ITF. Gary and Mike had a table set up in the middle of the Flea Market, and did a great job promoting the Club. One of the hot items they were giving away were pens with a club logo and information on it. It seemed that they were the only supply of Pens in the Flea Market, and gave away close to 500 of them in only a few hours! Another hot club item were the small and very convenient orange cooler bags, the Dayton participants seemed to grab these up quickly. They were great for keeping your drink and sandwich cool.
Join us, June 25th and 26st, for the Club’s biggest event of the year! If you haven’t already signed up for Field-day, send a note to email@example.com . We have plenty of room for operators, and their antennas. You need to sign up to reserve a spot, and antenna location. If you want to join the Field-Day fun, but don’t have a radio, you are more than welcome to join us, and Get-On-The-Air! This will be a good opportunity for you to use the Extra portions of the bands.
The Kings County Repeater Association needs your support at our monthly meetings! If you have any ideas that pertain to amateur radio, we would like to hear from you.
I think most of us are members of the ARRL. If you are not, I would like you to consider becoming a member of the ARRL. The ARRL has a lot to offer you in many ways, and they protect the amateur radio bands from commercial use!
Club meeting “Talk-In” frequency will be the KC2RA repeater 146.430 PL 136.5 shift +1.0. We will be monitoring the repeater, make any last minute announcements, and provide assistance to meeting participants if needed
Become Radioactive! Come to the KCRA meetings! Learn something participating in our Hands-On-Labs!
