President's Message - April 2010 PDF Print E-mail

Greetings to all our club members. As I write this article, the remnants of the nor-eastern storm are mostly finished. The storm had done a lot of damage in the Tri-State Area with trees down, and major flooding, along with power outages. Now things are almost back to normal with some very warm weather and some more rain on and off.

I hope everyone is well and staying warm these days. I am sitting here writing this letter and watching the snow fall. We have about three inches on the ground. As I am looking out my window I can see my ground mounted vertical buried in a snow drift about two feet deep. Oh well no hf today until I dig out the base of the antenna along with our automobiles and steps out in front.

Summer is in full swing right now and we are all suffering from the effects of the heat and humidity.  Please be careful outside (and inside too).  Drink plenty of water and try your best to stay cool.

The KCRA participated in field day as usual and this time we tried a new site.  Special thanks to South Beach Psych Hospital and NYS OMH for the use of hospital grounds for our field day event.  A special thanks goes out to the staff at the hospital.

So you just received (or gave) a new netbook, laptop, or desktop PC for the holidays. Congratulations.

I’ve written this article to help you keep that shiny new box with buttons on it running BETTER than new for quite a while.

Echolink has entered the final extended testing phase on the repeater.

There will be some down time every now and then, and audio can be spotty at times due to occasional reception issues at the present location.

Our node number is 64300 (KC2RA-R), and for now it is open to all Echolink stations.

RF access codes will be provided to all club members after testing is complete, and the node is in its final home.
